Every Child Matters is a new approach to the well-being of children and young people from birth to age 19. The Government's aim is for every child, whatever their background or their circumstances, to have the support they need to:
The government has a long term vision of schools at the heart of the community, providing access to childcare from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. all year round (not necessarily on the school site) and offering a range of locally determined activities and services. What's on offer is shaped by the needs and demands of pupils, parents and wider community. All the schools in the NE are already providing access to extended services.
