The NECIP E-Bulletin

Thank you for signing up to receive regular e-bulletins, and welcome to the first edition! I hope you find it useful and informative and, as always, welcome your feedback.

Before and after school activities this term include: Sports, cheerleading and musical theatre @ Solent Infant School; Fun & fitness, football and musical theatre @ Highbury Primary School; Hockey and drama @ Solent Junior School; tchoukball and dance @ Court Lane Junior School. Publicity will be coming home in the next week. To register an early interest, please contact Jo.

Keep checking the website for ‘News’…….

Summer Slam! was an amazing success with nearly 300 children participating in over 60 different activities. We will be contacting you and your child to evaluate this year’s programme, with a view to improving it for future holidays. There will be small prizes offered, e.g. cinema tickets or book tokens as an incentive to return the form!

Revive (formerly Cafe Central) @ Cosham (in The Link, Cosham Baptist Church) is starting again on Friday 18th September from 7.00 – 9.00 for 11 – 16 year olds and @ Highbury on Wednesday 16th September from 6.30 – 8.30 for 9 – 14 year olds at Highbury Community Centre. This is a great way for your children to unwind from a busy week, socialise in a safe environment with their friends, have a snack, play pool, play Wii or PS2 on a large screen or to simply ‘chill’. Entrance is just 50p.

Cheryl Taylor, our new Parent Support Adviser, is in post. Cheryl’s contact details are on the website and she will be working with schools to offer Parent Power courses, Triple P parenting seminars. All intended to make the rewarding, but sometimes challenging, job of being a parent that little bit easier. Please contact Cheryl if you would like more information about the courses or to register an early interest.

We now have a box of goodies to enable us to offer ‘healthy cookery on a budget’ or ‘healthy lunchbox’ workshops. These will probably start next half-term, so please contact Jo to register an early interest.

Do you know an older resident in the area who would benefit from the new ‘Drop’n’Shop’ service. Drayton & Farlington Action Group, in partnership with local schools (using their minibuses) is offering a ‘pick you up from home and take you to a local shopping centre’ service for just £2.50 return. Please phone the Information Centre on 02392 380000 for more information.

Plans for the Children’s Centre are well underway, with some early services on offer in Drayton, Farlington and Cosham. Please contact Louise Barker louise.barker@portsmouthcc.gov.uk for more information. The Children’s Centre at Highbury is offering a range of activities for families with children under 5 including Discovery Playtime, Parent drop-in, Boogie Mites, Come and Sing and more! Please contact 023 9237 8393 for more information.

The very popular NECIP Community Map is in the process of being re-printed. I can’t believe the number of changes since it was first compiled 3 years ago. The map contains a huge range of useful information, contact details and, of course, the map and will be available locally sometime this term.

We are seeking to find out if families have noticed any difference since the NECIP has been in place – an unbelievable 3 years! – and will be in contact with parents to seek feedback.

And finally……we hope you have found this e-bulletin useful and would welcome any comments please. There are activities planned for October half-term to include musical theatre (Monday 26th), sports camp, craft and gymnastics (Thursday 29th). Days and times are still being finalised. If you would like to register an early interest, please contact Jo.
